In the midst of all that’s going on in the world, it may be surprising (or not) to hear that, yes, brands are still rolling out new products. One such of those is Casio Edifice, who actually released these models prior to the global pandemic truly setting in.
First up, you’ve got the Casio Edifice EQS-920DB watches, which resolve a complaint that Jeff had in his recent ProTrek review – the lack of solar charging. Then again, the Edifice lineup seems to be more oriented for the office (while the ProTrek is for the outdoors) but there’s more than a little crossover here. I’d say that these are perhaps a bit simpler, as they’re “just” a solar-powered chronograph with day and date indications, as well as a power indicator (handy when you’re relying on the sun); prices range from $180 to $200.
At first blush, the Casio Edifice EQB1000XD lineup looks similar to the watches up top. And yes, they are solar-powered chronographs as well. However, they’re surprisingly thin, which is something we talked about in this review. Which really, if you want to know how that case profile (and the watch itself) behaves in the real world, that’s the review to check out. These, with the Bluetooth hookup to your phone, will run you from $330 to $380.
So, there you have it – similar designs that we’ve seen before, but with some splashes of new color in the mix. If you’ve already got an Edifice, there’s probably nothing here that would make you rush out to buy a new one, other than the super-thin 1000-series, which is nicer than you might expect.
