In the world of watches, we’re used to seeing carbon fiber – most commonly in the form of forged carbon – utilized for watch cases. It’s a technical material, and it lends great strength while maintaining a very light weight. Which means it’s perfect for use in a smart watch, reducing the weight you’re carrying around on, say, your jog. To take advantage of that, we’ve got three new watches in the Garmin MARQ Carbon collection.
Of course, if carbon fiber isn’t your jam, you can also instead opt for a titanium case. Those are great as well, but here, we want to focus on that carbon fiber. For this new release, there are three different versions being offered up, all of which offer slightly different functionality:
- The MARQ Carbon collection includes three luxury modern tools watches, each crafted from 130 layers of Fused Carbon Fiber—making it our lightest MARQ collection yet.
- Comprised of the MARQ Athlete, MARQ Golfer and MARQ Commander, the MARQ Carbon collection features an AMOLED touchscreen display, domed sapphire lens and up to 16 days of battery life.
- The MARQ Athlete – Carbon Edition is the ultimate multisport tool watch with features like endurance score, hill score, PacePro, daily suggested workouts, Garmin Coach and more.
- The MARQ Golfer – Carbon Edition is preloaded with 43,000 golf courses from around the world and includes features like Virtual Caddie, PlaysLike distance, Green Contour data and more.
- The MARQ Commander – Carbon Edition comes with dedicated features for tactical operations, including stealth mode, a kill switch, Jumpmaster and advanced aviation features for airborne operations.
- Each edition in the MARQ Carbon collection also includes Garmin’s superior navigation, fitness and connected features to help enrich every lifestyle.
While there is varied functionality across the three different models, you’ll also want to take note of what it is that they can all do the same. There’s the whole suite of fitness tracking that we’ve come to expect, as well as on-board GPS to track everything you’re doing, as well as contactless payment:
- Navigation: Multi-band GPS with SatIQ™ technology, preloaded TopoActive and ski resort maps, point-to-point navigation, UltraTrac mode, Tracback®, ClimbPro™ Ascent Planner and Outdoor Maps+ (subscription required)
- Health and fitness: Morning report, sleep score and advanced sleep monitoring, all-day stress tracking, Pulse Ox, jet lag adviser and Body Battery™ energy monitoring
- Connected: Smart notifications2, Garmin Pay™ contactless payments, incident detection and assistance4, LiveTrack, on-board music storage, on-device Connect IQ™ store
While we’re a little less certain who the Commander model is aimed at (we suppose military or police), and the Golfer has a narrow niche, the Athlete edition seems to be the solid all-arounder. This is going to give you that complete picture of all of your exercise and outdoor activities, as well as move the notifications from your phone (which is tucked away in a bag somewhere) right to your wrist. That version is the entry-level of the three, coming in at $2,950, with the Golfer and Commander coming in at $3,100 and $3,200, respectively.
