When it comes to material for cold weather outdoors gear, wool is the OG choice, once that is still very much relevant today. It keeps you warm (even if it gets wet), is naturally odor-resistant, and it last a long time if properly cared for. That’s why the new Mission Workshop Mason Power Wool Pullover is intriguing.
What’s confusing is that the Mission Workshop Mason Power Wool Pullover looks more like your standard sweatshirt, rather than a wool sweater. The particular cut and styling, well, that belies the fact that this is performance oriented, given that the material used (a wool blend; details down below) is actually capable of 4-way stretch. So, that means if you’ve got it on as a base layer, it’s not going to be piece of kit restricting your range of movement.
Now, given that it’s made of 47% wool, it’s maybe not going to have the longevity that your classic cableknit is going to have, true. But, to get that stretch along with the benefits of wool, that seems like a good tradeoff. They also say that the outer layer has some additional work done with the synthetics to help enhance longevity, so maybe there isn’t a tradeoff to be had. Want to find out for yourself?
