Urban Armor Gear, protecting your phone better than a mall ninja

I’m sorry – when Victor told me about Urban Armor Gear, my mental image went immediately to that rather unflattering mental image of the stereotypical mall ninja (you know, the type who thinks r/iamverybadass is something to aim for as a goal in life). Fortunately, I quickly looked at what UAG was offering, and was disabused of this notion. They’re producing what looks like a very robust case, and of course there’s a new version for the iPhone 11.

First up, props to whomever in the marketing department jumped on the 11, and ran with the “turns it up to 11” theme. You reference a great cultural touchstone like that (at least, it is for me) and you’ve got my attention. And, for all the iPhone 11 stuff I’ve seen cross my digital desk this week, this is the first one to take advantage of the situation. Perhaps everyone else just got lost on the way to that stage?

Anyways, mockumentaries aside, these look like some serious – and seriously cool – cases. We’ve got the full details of all the versions down below, but all of them offer military-grade drop protection (and this is not some vague claim – there’s an actual MILSPEC detailed out), and pricing runs from $40 to $60 for the range. All of them offer wireless charging and Apple pay compatibility (it’s not blocking wireless comms, just the bumps and bangs of life), and a variety of materials. The Plyo series looks to be the most similar to a “regular” phone case, whereas one like, say, the Metropolis gives you the ability to make the phone your wallet as well.

The rest of the UAG lineup then gives you a very distinct bit of styling, with a bio-mechanical spiderweb (that’s what I’m calling it, at least) covering the back of the case. Depending on the case, it could be in different materials. We’ll be able to tell you soon how that works – and looks – in person, as we’ve got a Monarch series case coming in (albeit for an older model, but it’ll give us the general concept). Urban Armor Gear looks to be producing some very serious – and competent – protection for your phone.
