This scale measures your cat and its poop

Purina has just announced the Petivity Smart Litterbox Monitor, a scale that sits underneath your cat’s litter box that lets you measure its weight while it does its business. The system works with an iOS-only app (for now) to help track your cat as they grow or shrink over the years.

From the product page:

The Petivity Smart Litterbox Monitor tracks your cat’s (or cats’) weight and litterbox behavior and alerts you to changes that might require your attention or a visit to the veterinarian. The system can help identify weight or behavioral changes that could be caused by serious health conditions like urinary tract infection, kidney disease, diabetes or hyperthyroidism that would require veterinary diagnosis. Petivity’s convenient Insight Report emails deliver key weight and behavior data all in one place, and provide helpful explanations and tips for managing your cat’s health.

This looks like a one-off experiment by Purina and spin-off company Petivity. The system costs a mere $199 and can track multiple cats as they go about their business during the day. While one would assume you don’t really need a robotic, wi-fi enabled scale to see if your cats are sick, this might be a boon to those who want as little to do with their cats as possible.
