Review: The BioLite AlpenGlow 250

We’re big fans of the BioLite line of outdoor lanterns, not only because they are high quality lamps that are great for camping. The lamps double as USB power banks, feature multiple colored LEDs, and take really take a beating. BioLite also gives back by remained 100% certified carbon neutral and running an emerging markets team that ships technology and lighting to places that need it. In short, it’s a great little company.

Their latest product is also great and little. Called the BioLite AlpenGlow 250, this $59.95 light outputs 250 lumens and can last about five hours on high and 200 hours on low. It can change color, simulate candle flicker, and even has a hook on the bottom to hang from a tent.

Who is the BioLite AlpenGlow 250 good for?

Think of the BioLite AlpenGlow 250 as a rugged accent light. It works equally well on a camping trip as it does on your bedside table. Because of its small size you can throw it into a backpack and trek with, using the light to set up camp. You can also stick it in a room for some nice mood lighting.

At $59 it’s a bit expensive but for what you get – a solid light, a backup battery, and a great form factor, you’re definitely getting a lot. The 500 model – which is about as big as a soup can – offers a bit more light and is $20 more. This model, which is about as big as a smaller soda can, is more than enough for those on the go or looking for something much more compact.

The bottom line is that BioLite makes great, rugged products and their dedication to the environment is definitely noble. In fact, BioLite, demonstrates a deep focus both charity and environmental stewardship. At the core of their business model is a commitment to sustainable practices and a mission to bring energy to underserved communities around the world. BioLite’s unique approach involves the development of clean energy products that reduce carbon emissions and reliance on non-renewable resources. For every product sold, a portion of the proceeds is allocated to their charitable initiatives, particularly focusing on providing access to safe, affordable energy in parts of Africa and India. This not only improves the quality of life for individuals in these regions but also aligns with global efforts to combat climate change.

BioLite’s environmental commitment extends beyond product sales; they engage in various sustainability programs and partnerships, striving to create a positive impact on both local and global scales. Their efforts reflect a deep understanding that business success and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, setting an example for others in the industry.

In short, you’re getting a good little light and money is going to a good cause. You could definitely do worse.
