Amongst the many types of “gadgets” that we like, the ones that fall into the category of “Every Day Carry”, or EDC, can be among some of the most interesting. They tend to be simpler mechanical items (think of a pocket knife), not full of gee-whiz circuits, but plenty of clever design all the same. One of the latest to hit is the Claw 2.0.
Tucked into this tiny little tool is a lot of functionality (as that header image shows). Just like your big, folding multitool, the Claw 2.0 can do quite a bit, including:
- Cutting open packages
- Turning screws with slotted heads
- Open bottles (pop or beer, your choice)
- Strike a flint (to start the campfire to enjoy your beverage by)
- Spots to insert either a 1/4″ or 1/6″ hex driver (allowing you to turn a bunch of different fasteners)
That last bit, with the hex drivers, that I’m less convinced of the utility. I suppose in a pinch, it’s going to help you. But if I’m anywhere near my toolbox at home, I’m going to go for a full-sized hex driver, rather than the Claw 2.0, just for leverage and comfort in the hand. But, again, in a pinch, it’ll work.
And given how small this bit of steel (in gold) or titanium is, it’ll be simple enough to have on your keychain all the time. Guessing that the package and bottle opening will be the most frequently used, but don’t underestimate having that slotted screw driver to help out, even just to pry things up.
