Mudita Kompakt: a distraction-free eInk phone

Mudita Kompakt

The last time we were talking about Mudita and a phone, it was something more akin to the candybar-style phones of days gone by. These days, we might be to accustomed to our larger touchscreens to want to do away with that completely. If that’s you, but you like the idea Mudita had by making things less distracting on your phone, then the Mudita Kompakt might be what you’re searching for.

Mudita Kompakt: what it is

On one hand, the Mudita Kompakt seems to fit our modern phone aesthetic – a 4.3″ screen that dominates the front, an overall rectangle shape, fingerprint sensor, a camera, and connections for modern phone networks, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB-C. Then you get to the screen itself, which is an eInk screen, much like what you’ll see in your Kindle. That’s how you know you’re getting to something different here.

The Mudita Kompakt is a phone that focuses on being a communication device (texting, phone calls), while also giving you GPS navigation, music, and your calendar (along with a handful of other apps). You’re not installing other apps, figuring out what game to while away your commute, or anything like that. This is a device that is purposely, and purposefully, stripped back.

Want even fewer distractions?

Even without email and your favorite apps in play on the Mudita Kompakt, you might find yourself getting distracted by the group text thread. Well, for when you really want to disconnect, there’s actually a hardware switch on the side of the phone that literally disconnects you. It shuts off the GSM radios and the mics at the hardware layer, while also shutting off the camera, Bluetooth, and WiFi within the software.
