Looking for a deal on a smartwatch?

If so, the teams over at Fossil and Skagen have got you covered. I mean, what shouts out supporting worker rights (Labor Day, don’t you know) more than going and buying stuff? I guess if it’s online, no retail clerks were harmed in the making of this sale…

Ok, that’s enough of a peek in to the fever dream of what’s in my head when I write these articles up. Let’s talk about discounted tech! While both brands are promoting their hybrid smart watches in the mix (which look like traditional analog watches with additional smarts mixed in), let’s talk about the true, full screen, smart watches. For Fossil, that means their Gen 5 Smartwatch. These are running Google’s Wear OS, so you are – in large part – buying these for how they look, as the OS defines functionality.

And, wouldn’t you know it, Fossil has you covered in the style department. For the Gen 5 Smartwatch, I count six different stock looks (your own straps up that infinitely) coming in at $295. That price isn’t for a stripped-down piece, either, just peep the specs:

  • Processor:?Qualcomm? Snapdragon? Wear 3100
  • Case Size:?44mm
  • Notifications:?Text / Email / Social Media / App Alerts / Multiple Time Zones / Alarm Clock / Calendar Alerts
  • Functions:?Heart Rate Tracking / GPS / Google Pay? / Swimproof / Notifications / Personalize Your Dial / Control Your Music / Interchangeable Watch Band
  • Connectivity:?Bluetooth Smart Enabled / 4.2 Low Energy
  • Compatibility:?Android? 4.4+ (excluding Go edition), iOS 9.3+

Oh, and if you want to save a few bucks, they’ve also got their Gen 4 watches still up for sale, and those start at $179. I’ve not tried either of these versions (I went hands-on with an older one here); John points out in this article how Fossil has upped their game.

On the other hand, if your style goes more towards the clean minimalism side of things, then the Skagen Falster 2 (coming in at $199 in the sale) has you covered (or the Falster 1 at $99). Again, Wear OS is powering the watch, and you get a whole host of functionality (including HR tracking), along with all of this:
