Gunnar Fallout Vault 33: coming soon

While we may have been quiet about Gunnar Optiks for a while, they’re definitely way on our radar now. We first told you about their Year of the Dragon collab, and then talked about their very versatile Cupertino frames with replaceable lenses. Well, now they’re back in a collab with Amazon Studios, hitting one of the more popular video game series of the last few decades – Fallout. Time to get familiar with the Gunnar Fallout Vault 33.

Gunnar Fallout Vault 33: what are they?

Coming from Gunnar Optiks, you know that these glasses are going to be full of the bluelight-blocking goodness that they’re known for. With these new frames, they’ve also embraced other tints. You can get them with their iconic yellow tint, go more towards the clear, or even go straight to sunglasses. The big differentiator, then, is going to be the frames.

A retro-futuristic frame

The Gunnar Fallout Vault 33 lean into the 1940s / 1950s vibe that the friendly Pipboy graphics embody. Here, you’ve got what looks to me to be a mashup of a wire frame, heavier horn rims, and the riding / working glasses that had dust shields on the side. This means you’ve got a visually heavier front frame section. This wings back, which won’t block much wind, but should help keep glare from coming in around the frames. Given the thicker frames, comfort could be an issue on your nose. We’re working on getting a pair in (in sunglasses tint) to test out, so we’ll let you know.

When you can get yours

While the Gunnar Fallout Vault 33 was just announced today, they’re not going to be fully available until April 3, 2024. Once they go live, they will be available for $99. If you want, they can be pre-ordered right now over at Amazon (amber, clear, or sun). The frames are primarily gunmetal, with olive coming in at the temples. Then, as we mentioned, you can get these in either amber, clear, or sun tints. gunnar.com
