While this is more of a product that we would have expected, oh, a month and a half ago, still, here we are – Grado is introducing a new limited-edition headset that celebrates this agricultural wonder material and puts it in price of place with the the Grado The Hemp Headphone.
Now, putting the hemp (and it being cannabis-adjacent) aside, what really struck me was really just the overall look of this headset. On the outside, what we’re seeing here is a wonderfully-patterened bit of wood. In actuality, this is highly-compressed hemp, that gives this wonderfully organic look. While putting natural materials together with tech seems odd, at first, it actually gives a rather nice look to things.
Along with that hemp, the audio engineers also put some maple in place as well, to help balance things out and get the drivers tuned up. Sure, the hemp is a sort of attention grabber for the Grado The Hemp Headphone, but if the audio quality simply wasn’t there, you know Grado isn’t going to be putting these up on the virtual order shelf.
Speaking of ordering – these are up for pre-order right now (directly from Grado) for a price of (wait for it) $420. Sure, the gimmick hits there, but you sort of have to expect a price tag like this when the hand-built headphones feature hemp, right? Like all other Grado headphones, these will be built and sent to you from the company in Brooklyn (99!). Just be careful with your lighter around these, yeah? grado.com
