Amazon can’t win. Whether it’s shady deals with law enforcement, trying to create a surveillance network they control, or just plain allowing their developers full access to all users’ videos, Ring continues to give them bad news on the doorstep.
The EFF has noticed that the Android version of the Ring app is loaded up with 3rd party trackers.
Four main analytics and marketing companies were discovered to be receiving information such as the names, private IP addresses, mobile network carriers, persistent identifiers, and sensor data on the devices of paying customers.

What’s the harm in sharing this info with marketing companies? Well, for one, that wasn’t an explicit part of the deal. You paid for the camera, you may be paying for video storage, and they’re giving away a large amount of data on you.
This data can be used to create a fingerprint for your device, and then follow you around on the internet, creating a profile of you. You bought a surveillance camera, you probably didn’t plan on being surveilled.
Amazon should do better. There’s no obvious justification for this. If they have one, they should explain themselves.
