Recently, the Bored Ape Yacht Club Instagram account, along with the Bored Ape Yacht Club discord server were hacked, resulting in a scam link posing as a supposed airdrop being posted on their social medias.
Approximately $2.5 million was stolen through the phishing scam, including four Bored Ape Yacht Club tokens, six Mutant Ape Yacht Club tokens, and three Bored Ape Kennel Club tokens. The four BAYC NFTs were nearly immediately sold by the scammers, netting a total of 540 ether, or $1.6 million.
