The Framework laptop is a DIY powerhouse

If you’ve ever want to build your own laptop then the Framework has you covered. Designed with DIYers and hackers in mind, the laptop comes in a $1049 Intel 12th Gen model or a roll-your-own $819 model that can run the operating system of your choice.

The whole thing is customizable, down to the ports. Individual ports cost $9 each – you can add a few of each – and extra memory and hard drive space costs a bit more. You can install Windows or anything else you can imagine.

“The time has come for consumer electronics products that are designed to last: products that give you back the power to upgrade, customize, and repair them. We’re excited for the opportunity to fix the consumer electronics industry together,” write the creators.

Ever since I picked up a Dell XPS with Ubuntu pre-installed I’ve been compelled to figure out just how to get a nice Linux laptop that I can completely control and build. This looks like one of the best of the bunch. You can pre-order now for $100 down and the laptops will ship in July.
