Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet-Plus: ear protecting ANC for kids

When we talk about headphones, and particularly those with active noise cancellation (ANC), we’re often focused on what you and I might want to use for our remote work setups, or just for listening to music, podcasts, and audiobooks. Well, you know who does those things as well? The kids in your life, and if they’re not careful, they could damage their ears with the volume cranked up. Unless, that is, they’re using the Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet-Plus.

What are they?

Well, as we said up front, the Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet-Plus are a pair of bluetooth-enabled (though it looks like they can be wired as well via a 3.5mm cable) headphones with ANC that can be toggled on (or off) via a switch on the earcup. What makes these great for kids is the fact that the hardware limits audio output to no more than 85 dB, keeping those eardrums safe.

Why ANC?

Given the over-ear design, the Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet-Plus are going to cut out a lot of background noise. But if you really want to make it so the kids don’t have to crank the volume up, turning on ANC is going to help quite a bit in that regard. Sure, they’re not going to hear you calling their name to go take the trash out, but that’s a small price to pay.

Why I like these

While all of my kids use headphones at some point during the week, my youngest has them on every day, just about. She’s a big fan of the Playaway audio books that she can check out from the library, so she’s constantly listening to something. Sometimes I am able to hear what she’s listening to, so I’ll remind her to turn them down. With the Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet-Plus, that’s going to happen automatically to keep it at safe levels. Add in the fact that these have a built-in mic, and then they’re great for use on a Facetime call to friends as well, without having siblings listening in.

How to get a pair

If you want to get a pair of the Puro Sound Labs PuroQuiet-Plus for the young ones in your life, they’re available in six different color for $139. For that, you get the headphones, a carrying/storage case, 3.5mm cable, charging cable, and a daisy-chaining cable. They’re available at Amazon or directly at purosound.com
