Don’t you hate it when you’re filming, and the subject goes out of frame?
Pivo hates it, too. Pivo is a motorized stand that follows the action so you don’t have to.
There have been a lot of attempts to capture the action and keep you in frame.
- Galileo by Motrr was a kickstarter that raised over 700k and worked with iPhones with dock connectors. Barely. It was released just at the time that the 30pin dock connector changed over to the 9 pin lightning and had mixed app support.
- iPad – the iPad Pro gained the ability to pan and zoom to keep users on FaceTime in frame.
- and of course, Pivo. Pivo has been around since at least 2019, making this humble little motor.
Pivo is a cylinder, with a motor that rotates 360 degrees. You can use it to keep you in view for tennis practice. You can use it while on video calls if you need to move around. And, if you use it with their Pivo Tour app ($249 USD) you can make 3D video tours of real estate for listings.
Pivo Pod Max is 30% off for Prime Day – $174.99 instead of $249.
Most people will want to use Pivo+ or Pivo Play apps. Pivo+ is auto-tracking for photos, videos, and video calls. Pivo Play is for making all the effects you see in TikTok-style videos: cloning yourself, positioning multiples of yourself in a single frame, stitching two videos side by side as a transition, panoramas, timelapse, and more.
There are three Pivo pods to choose from
The Pivo Pod Lite is $79. It’s simple, comes in colors, and tracks your in 360 degrees. You can add a remote control to it for 109 total.
The Pivo Pod comes with the remote, has a 2x rotation speed, and is $149.
Where things get interesting is the new Pivo Max. Pivo Max lets you do the basics, like filming a new recipe from your kitchen, or as you practice a new skateboard trick or tennis serve. It tracks in 360 degrees, automatically or using the remote.
What Max brings to the table is dual filming. You can film content on your smartphone and an SLR camera at the same time, capturing every moment and eliminating the need for time-consuming editing. Literally, mount them on a tripod vertically one above the other, so that you get the shot and the tracking shot.
And, if you’re doing Timelapse and other work, you’re going to want battery. Max has a 10-12 hour battery life so you can keep tracking without worry.
Auto-tracking camera control has been a thing for years, going back at least as far as 2012. Pivo is the best choice, because they’ve been the ones who have managed to stick around for years doing it. If you practice sports, if you just want to look good on calls using Apple Continuity Camera, or you’re filming for real estate use… check out Pivo and the new Pivo Max.
