Introducing the Urbanista Miami ANC Headphones

There seem to be a veritable plethora of options out in the market when it comes to headphones. There’s the big names out there, of course, and that gives us comfort with an established brand. If you want to go off the beaten path, though, there are some interesting designs to be found. One of the most recent are the Urbanista Miami ANC Headphones.

Now, before I had received the press release, I hadn’t heard of Urbanista before. Checking out their site, however, and they’ve got quite the range of headphones and speakers available, all with names coming from various world cities.

At it’s core, the Urbanista Miami ANC Headphones is not that different from many others – it’s a bluetooth-enabled on-ear headset with active noise cancellation. So, how does a brand begin to differentiate itself? First, of course, you’ve got the basic exterior design of the headset, and then the colors offered – here, you’ve got black, white, red, and teal.

Then you’ve got to get into the various interesting features. Along with ANC, the Urbanista Miami ANC Headphones offers a function called “Ambient Sound” which allows you to hear some of what’s going on around you (handy for, say, walking near traffic). If this works like what we saw in the Anker Life Q30, it’s a neat trick – albeit one you’ll only use when you really need to.

One feature I was really intrigued by with the Urbanista Miami ANC Headphones is the “on ear detection”. Basically, the headset knows when you’re wearing it. Take it off of your ears – say, walking into a building or stopping to talk to someone – and it automatically pauses what you’re listening to. Put them back on, and the audio starts right back up. Now, that’s clever simplicity.

The Urbanista Miami ANC Headphones are available for pre-order as of today, directly from the brand, for $149. We’ve reached out to the brand to see if we can get a loaner in to see if they can dethrone our current favorite ANC headset, the Anker Life Q20. So, stay tuned for that! urbanista.com
