You know Grado, right? Purveyor of all things higher-end (and lovely-looking) audio? Whether or not you have a pair of their headphones, their open-back designs are undoubtedly familiar if you’ve seen any interviews, podcasts, or show that is set in a studio. Well, now you can cut the cord (perfect for WFH or air guitar jam sessions) with their just-announced Grado GW100x.
Now, if you’re thinking of picking these up, you do need to consider the environment you’re using them in. The Grado GW100x are open-backed headphones (more on what those are right here), which will give a lovely audio reproduction, but you’ll also be hearing what’s going on around you. It does mean audio can leak out (though their specs say they’ve reduced that), and you’ll want not want to be out in the rain with these.
If the Grado GW100x meets how you’re looking to use them (and where), then it looks like you’ll be in for a treat. Design-wise, these have the timeless Grado looks, and they’ve also got their decades and decades of audio tuning experience built into the drivers. The inclusion of Bluetooth brings them firmly into the current age, of course.
With the Grado GW100x, you’re not just getting great sound – you’re getting a wireless headset that can run for 46 hours, and the ability to go wired (with a standard 3.5mm cable) if you really want to. Once charging time comes around, you’ve got a standard USB-C connection, which we’re glad to see showing up more and more.
