Last month, we brought you word of the new Tifosi Swank XL sunglasses (you can see that here). Since that launch, we got a pair in, and I’ve been wearing them when I’ve been heading out of the house. You know what that means – it’s time for a review!
As I mentioned in that initial article, glasses like the Tifosi Swank XL are a boon for folks with oversize noggins like me. Aside from looking proportionally correct on my face, they also don’t feel like the arms are jamming into my skull behind my ears – or, alternatively, worrying about the extreme angle being forced at the hinge. The frame also has a little bit of flex as well to it, allowing even more give in the fit. For me, they felt immediately comfortable.
Sizing goes a long way, but the light weight of the Tifosi Swank XL is a big contributor as well. How light? Just 26g, which is just a touch over three times what the microfiber pouch the sunglasses come with. So, yeah, they’re light, giving your nose a break. Speaking of, the nose pads are hydrophilic, meaning that as you sweat, they grip more tightly (instead of sliding and bouncing around). I tested them out on some morning jogs, and they stayed in place just like you’d hope.
In other words, the Tifosi Swank XL are setup to be a great active pair of shades, especially if you’ve got a bigger head that needs to be accommodated. I tend to go for polarized lenses, which these were not. Still, they’ve got UVA and UVB protection, and I felt they did a good job of cutting the glare down, even when the sun was bouncing off of the snow. How much, you ask?
