I really want the ultra simple, distraction-free Light Phone III

We loved the Light Phone II and its compact design, simplicity, and distraction-free experience. But for me, the e-ink touch display, while initially attractive, became a significant drawback. It was too slow and cumbersome for everyday tasks, especially messaging, which is a key part of staying connected in our fast-paced world.

The Light Phone III addresses this issue head-on by switching to a larger, matte OLED display. This change drastically improves performance and usability without sacrificing the calm, black-and-white interface that promotes digital mindfulness. The result is a phone that still helps you do less but does enough to keep up with essential communication needs.

Another significant upgrade is the addition of a camera, but with a unique twist. Inspired by classic film cameras, it has a dedicated shutter button, center focus, and fixed focal length – making photography enjoyable and intentional.

The Light Phone III also boasts other thoughtful additions like USB-C charging, fingerprint ID, flashlight, 5G, a clicky wheel for navigation, and a stylish metal case that brings to mind vintage Sony radios.

While there’s something undeniably charming about the E-ink Light Phone II, we recognize that it’s not for everyone. The Light Phone III, with its improved functionality and minimalist aesthetic, aims to cater to those who want to reduce digital distractions without compromising on essential features.

The Light Phone III is available for pre-order now for $400 and is expected to ship in January 2025.
