When it comes to backpacking, you’re always looking for ways to reduce the weight in your pack, as well as reduce the space things take up. This means, when it comes to cooking utensils, you’re probably left with a pretty basic set of stuff that is both your prep/cooking tools, as well as what you eat with. I have a set similar to these that now live in my lunch box. If you’re looking for a whole lot more utility when you hit the trail, then the EATi Mag is worth a look.
EATi Mag: what it is
As you can guess from that intro, the EATi Mag is a set of utensils (knife, fork, and spoon) that are intended to go along with your cooking and eating vessels in your backpack. They are a major step up from what I carry today, and even so over some of the other magnetic kits you can find out there. Yes, that’s right, these use magnets to hold things together. So, no clanking of them in your backpack. As you can see from the photo up above, these utensils can be put to quite a number of uses.
The adapter allowing you to create tongs is pretty clever, I have to admit. Where these are really going to shine is what the material used – titanium – allows them to do. Yes, titanium is light, and that lets you keep weight down in your bag. It’s also an incredibly strong metal, which allows you to do stuff like pry things open, loosen/tighten fasteners, and even open a can (why you’d bring canned goods on a trail, I have no idea).
Wrapping things up
The EATi Mag is currently funding over on Kickstarter, with things wrapping up on January 18, 2025. While I’ve not heard of the crew behind the EATi Mag before, they’re into double-digits on these sorts of campaigns. Combine that with the fact that this is way over-funded, it seems likely these will be hitting doorstops in April 2025. You can back the EATi Mag for £49 (approx $61), shipping a little bit more.
