Over in Vegas, fitness watch leader Garmin is out there bringing us some new hardware, including a heart rate monitor designed specifically for women, a new smartwatch line, and even a refresh to their quite comprehensive Garmin Connect software.
First up, the HRM-Fit. Traditional heart-rate monitors have been a elastic strap you put around your torso, and then there’s a small puck that attaches to that, and does the monitoring and sending it over to your phone. It’s not been the most comfortable option in the world, but it gets the job done. For women, though, there’s a much more comfortable option. With the new Garmin HRM-Fit, you have the strap and monitoring puck that clips onto the front of the sports bra that is already likely being worn. This is a great innovation in our book, and will definitely make wearing a chest HR monitor less of a hassle. It’s available now for $149.99
Next up, we’ve got the Lily 2 fitness smartwatch. Just like the HRM-Fit above, this is a series that is aimed at the women out there (but we say it could just as easily work for anyone who has smaller wrists and wants something with a pop of color). For this, there’s the $249.99 for the Lily 2, while the Lily 2 Classic goes for $279.99. For all of the relevant specs, you can get those over at Garmin’s site; here’s the product links for the Lily 2 and the Lily 2 Classic.
Finally, there was word of an update to the Garmin Connect app and website. This is, of course, the hub for all things Garmin data collection, and a great way to get a comprehensive picture of your quantified health (we know this as we’ve got a Garmin watch in for review right now, so be on the lookout for that). This is going into beta soon, and when it rolls out to everyone, we’ll get refreshed views and insights into our metrics.
