Attack your campfire with Pit Command

Whether you’re dealing with a campfire in your backyard firepit, or ones at the campground, odds are you’re going to need some way to move around the logs once they’re burning. A stout stick can often get the job done, and I’ve also used welding gloves to great effect. Want something a bit more purpose-built to the job at hand? Then you should check out what Pit Command has for you.

First up, for those of you with the smokeless firepits, they’ve got the Pit Command Talon. This looks much like a pair of tongs you’ve got in your kitchen or hanging from the grille, except supersized. They take over a pound of carbon steel to form these, get a high temp power coat applied (since regular paint would burn or flake off), and then put molded grips up where your hands are going to be. Seems like a tidy tool to get in there, and move a log or two around. Gets the job done, and no worries about a stick catching fire while you lever around with it.

If you’ve got a larger firepit, or just want to feel like a bit more of a mountain man, they’ve got two other tools that take the form of an axe – the Pit Commander Ranger and Commander. Again, carbon steel and powder coat are in the mix, as is a molded grip. For working with your fire, you’ve got three tools on these axes – a jabber (the spike at the top), a hook (the toothed curved bit on the back) and a chopper (the axe head). It doesn’t appear that the chopper is sharpened, so don’t plan on chopping down trees. Should work as a wedge in a split though, and then you also don’t have to worry about a sheath for the blade if you’ve got kids wandering around.

These are rather unique tools, made here in the good ol’ US of A, and look like they should last for decades, easily (just don’t store it out in the rain, ok?). These are simple tools designed for the job, but have some interesting designs with the carvouts and colors. The tools range from $159 – $179, and can be picked up at pitcommand.com
