Today, Amazon announced the closing of its $8.45 billion acquisition of the movie studio MGM.
In a blog post from Amazon, senior vice president of Prime Video and Amazon Studios Mike Hopkins stated, “We welcome MGM employees, creators, and talent to Prime Video and Amazon Studios, and we look forward to working together to create even more opportunities to deliver quality storytelling to our customers,”
This acquisition marks the largest deal of Amazon’s since its acquisition of Whole Foods in 2017 and should diversify Prime Video’s catalogue of films greatly.
