The London-based tech firm, Nothing, is making waves in the smartphone industry with its latest operating system update. The company has begun rolling out Nothing OS 2.0 to its first-generation device, the Nothing Phone 1. This comes after the same update was released to the Nothing Phone 2 back in July.
Nothing OS 2.0 is a significant upgrade, offering a slew of new features, enhanced functionality, and a wider range of customization options. The update was initially announced by Nothing CEO Carl Pei in June, with a promise that it would be available for Phone 1 users by the end of August. True to his word, the company has delivered on this promise. Among the standout features of the update are monochrome app icons, new widgets, lock screen customizations, and the ability to lock individual apps.
Additionally, it introduces clone app support, a feature that allows users to run multiple instances of the same app. The release of Nothing OS 2.0 is expected to bring the Nothing Phone 1 up to speed with its successor, the Phone 2. However, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the most recent update from the company. Just last week, Nothing launched OS 2.0.2a for the Phone 2, an update primarily focused on enhancing camera performance, HDR improvements, low-light scenarios, and facial clarity. This development comes as Google gears up to launch Android 14. It’s worth recalling that when Android 13 was released, the Nothing Phone 1 didn’t receive the update until about six months later. It remains to be seen whether the Nothing Phone 2 will follow a similar timeline with the upcoming Android 14. nothing.com
