Koi’s Muscimind Liquid Trip: A little shot of (non-psychedelic) mushrooms

As a fan of mushrooms of all kinds, I was curious about Koi’s Muscimind Liquid Trip, a little bottle about the size of a 5-Hour Energy drink that claims to contain Muscimol, the principal ingredient of Amanita muscaria. Amanita muscaria is a vaguely psychoactive mushroom species that is also known as fly agaric. I recently spoke to the CEO of another company that produces tinctures designed for sleep but this particular drink is aimed at music enjoyment.

The product itself tastes like weird Kool-Aid. Designed to be downed in a gulp, you get a few things in every bottle including Lion’s Mane mushroom, Hostilis Bark, L-Tryptophan, Rhodolia Extract, and Vitamins B12 and D3. Like most supplements, this thing is not specifically FDA approved and is more like a power drink rather than anything truly psychoactive.

The question, however, is whether or not it works?

Does Koi’s Muscimind Liquid Trip actually work?

I tried the product twice, drinking down each 50ml bottle completely. First, remember that Amanita Muscaria isn’t a try psychedelic so you won’t see weird shapes or colors. That said, it is an effective mood altering substance, especially when trying to sleep. Therefore, the “15mg of muscimol + nootropic mushroom blend” contained in the bottle did have some effect.

The product is essentially a relaxant. I found the results to be pleasant but underwhelming and I doubt users of other mushroom types would equate this to anything in their experience. You can think of it as a nice wine buzz without the alcohol – you’re relaxed, music sounds a little better, and thanks to the vitamins you’ve got a little energy. That said, do not mistake this for a psychedelic or even an intoxicant. It isn’t. It’s a nice, warm feeling and that’s about it.

Thankfully Koi doesn’t promise the moon with this product and so can safely deliver exactly what it advertises. It could help with connections – there’s definitely a bit of MDMA marketing her – but I really think this is a nice way to relax before a concert or rave. Again, this does not contain psychedelic mushrooms and for $11 a bottle I want to make that perfectly clear.

I also suspect that this supplement might be helpful for sleep. It contains a nice little collection of natural remedies, regardless of the fly agaric, making it a solid solution for a nice nap.

In my experience Muscimol actively improves sleep and gives some amazingly lucid dreams. Therefore even if you don’t down this while wearing a neon crop top and bondage pants, you can definitely get some benefit.

Does Koi’s Muscimind Liquid Trip a good product?

Sure, as long as you know what you’re getting. Mushroom fans won’t be fooled by this product but if you see it at a shop you might get confused. Again, this contains Amanita muscaria, not any form of potent psychedelic. Just because it says mushrooms on the package doesn’t mean you’ll meet God or his lawyer, Kevin. Instead, you’ll have a chill time, which is about all we can hope for at this point.
