Introducing: Monoprice DT-3BT Bookshelf Speakers

Yesterday, we brought you word of some new inexpensive bluetooth earbuds coming from Monoprice. Well, what if you’re set for stuff that you put on (or in) your ears, and instead want to get some sound pushed out in a small space? Have no fear, friends, because Monoprice has you covered with their Monoprice DT-3BT Bookshelf Speakers.

Now, have no fear, dear reader. We’ve not become a shill or affiliate for Monoprice. We just happened to get in touch with their marketing people recently, and they happened to have these two releases hit where we happened to have openings in our schedule – so here we are. Now, on to the Monoprice DT-3BT Bookshelf Speakers. As their name suggests, these are meant to be compact and be able to be tucked away on a bookshelf. At under 8″ tall and just 3.5lbs apiece, I’d say they’ve got that covered.

Traditionally, a bookshelf speaker has not had a lot going for it past a smaller size. What makes the Monoprice DT-3BT Bookshelf Speakers stand out – for me, at least – is the fact that there’s an amplifier in the cabinet already, so you’re not relying on what the source can push to it. Oh, and speaking of sources, there’s another fun addition. Along with RCA, 1/4″, and an 1/8″ line-in input, they’ve also tucked in Bluetooth.

Used to be, we’d just be used to having to string cables here and there and connect it all together. Nowadays, not many folks have a dedicated CD player that they’d hook in. All of their music is digital, living in the cloud or on your phone. For those folks, that’s where the bluetooth should really shine on these speakers. To run the pair, however, you will need to connect them using standard speaker wire (which is included, as are all of the other input cables you might want to use).

Total output for the pair should top out at 40W, which isn’t your backyard party setup, but should be just fine for music in a small room, a setup at your WFH desk, or even just to have something playing at your workbench in the basement or garage. Whatever the setup, the sound out of these should easily best any portable bluetooth speaker you may have, not to mention being able to get some audio seperation between them. While the earbuds we talked about yesterday aren’t available quite yet, these speakers are indeed, for $99 directly from monoprice.com
