Introducing: GOBI Cashmere Sneakers

It seemed not that long ago that sneakers with wool uppers were all the rage. While that brand doesn’t seem as hot these days, it doesn’t mean that wool couldn’t be a versatile option for your shoes. And hey, if you can upgrade to the super-soft cashmere? That’s what the new GOBI Cashmere Sneakers are offering.

What are they?

Take your classic sneaker profile – either in low or high top form, and set that picture in your mind. Then, replace the leather and synthetic materials that you’re used to encountering, and instead put Mongolian cashmere in it’s place. Now, for everyone who’s ever had a cashmere sweater, that doesn’t seem nearly sturdy enough, does it? Well, they’ve got regular wool on the inside, which is where we presume the structural support is coming in.

Why consider these?

Well, for one, the GOBI Cashmere Sneakers offer classic styling. Then when you consider just how the breathability and thermal regulation of wool works, that means that these should be great for both warmer and cooler weather, helping your feet stay warm and dry. Speaking of dry – that is one potential drawback. While the woolen high tops seem like they’d be perfect for winter, these are shoes you do not want to be getting wet if you can help it. So, maybe they’re better for fall, or for popping on once you’ve got your rain or snow boots shed.

Where can you get them?

The high top version comes in at $229 (in grey or blue), while the low top (which has some smaller sizes available) is $199 in blue, grey, or taupe. You can check those out, and all the other woolen goods they’ve got, over at gobicashmere.com
