With headphone ports getting taken away from us on our phones, tablets, and laptops, adapters have become almost a requirement. Sure, you could opt for something simple that will get the job done. Or you could go for something that upgrades your listening experience, like the new iFi Audio GO link Max.
iFi Audio GO link Max: what it is
In many ways, it’s similar to other iFi Audio products we’ve written about. By that, we mean that it packs in a digital-to-analog converter (aka a DAC) like their other products, expressly designed to make your music sound better. In fact, the iFi Audio GO link Max has two DACs in it, one each for both the left and right channels.
In terms of connecting it into your devices, that’s via a USB-C connector, which sends both power and the audio signal. On the other side of the adapter, you’ve got two headphone jacks. One is a 4.4mm balanced headphone output (which will really take advantage of that dual DAC configuration), and the other is the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Even on that smaller port, you should still see a noticeable difference in the sound quality.
Wrapping things up
If you’ve got a pair of demanding headphones that you want to use on the go, it seems like this is the route to take. It can deliver up to 5x the power of USB-C audio output on a Macbook Pro, and the hardware volume controls mean you can adjust your volume up or down without any distortion or loss in the audio quality. The iFi Audio GO link Max is available now for $79 directly from ifi-audio.com
