Hands-on with the new Traeger Timberline series

As an unabashed pellet grill fan, the new Traeger Timberline and Timberline XL make my mouth water.

I saw the new grills at Traeger’s official event in Salt Lake City and I’d have to say that this is one of the most interesting innovations in grilling in years. The entire package is amazingly sleek and functional and – the absolute best part? – there is a self-enclosed grease and ash trap that allows you to cook and smoke without making a huge mess.

The grills will have an optional pizza oven feature as well as a cast-iron grill feature that lets you sear. The other interesting part is the induction cook top on the side which can sear food at up to 700 degrees. The pop and lock rail system allows you to add storage, hooks, and even butcher paper rolls to your grill. The new internals are stainless steel and look easy to clean.

The grill also comes with a pair of wireless thermometers and an interesting new hopper system that allows you to clear out your hopper instantly. It’s a clever addition to an already powerful product.

The new Traeger Timberline runs $3,499, and the Traeger Timberline XL is $3,799.
