According to various reports, Parlement Technologies, the owner of the self-described “free speech” social network Parler, has laid off most of its staff and executives in recent weeks.
The layoffs began in late November and continued through the end of December, leaving around 20 employees left working at both Parler and the parent company’s cloud services venture. Parler was kicked off Amazon Web Services after the January 2021 attack on the US Capitol, and Apple and Google also kicked Parler out of their app stores.
Parler has said it has about 16.5 million registered users, but website analytics company SimilarWeb reports that Parler’s total monthly site visits dropped from 2.3 million in September 2022 to 1.2 million in November. Parlement Technologies announced a restructuring in September 2022 and the acquisition of cloud company Dynascale, with CEO George Farmer saying Parler wants to “become a business powering what I call the uncancellable economy.”
