BOTE MAGNEChill: keep your beverage in place

In a number of our BOTE Boards articles, and even in our review of one of their coolers, we’ve made mention of their Magnepod system, which is a way to securely lock an accessory (say, a portable bluetooth speaker) in place on the board or cooler. Recently, we had another one of those accessories in – the BOTE MAGNEChill – that is a great option, even if you’re not taking advantage of the Magnepod system.

What it is

At this point, you’ve undoubtedly got more than a few different can coolers (or can koozies, if you prefer) in a cabinet somewhere. These days, we’ve gone well past the bright foam that our parents had, and we’re taking advantage of vacuum insulation to keep our drink cold while we’re out in the sun. And yes, the BOTE MAGNEChill is that – a vacuum-sealed can cooler. That said, this is a much sturdier-feeling koozie, with a decent amount of heft to the overall construction, as well as a healthy dose of paint to keep it looking sharp over time.

How it stands apart

There are two great features – aside from construction – that set the BOTE MAGNEChill apart. The first, of course, is that Magnepod capability. What this means is that there’s a powerful neodymium magnet in the base of the cooler. Put it on a Magnepod circle on your BOTE cooler or board, and it’s not going anwhere. As you can see in the photos here, I had it on the lid of our cooler, had it at 90 degrees and upside down, and the koozie didn’t shift anywhere. This also means that, if you’ve got any steel surface available, you can pop this down and not worry about it going anywhere. Used with the cooler, your drink isn’t blowing away, and it’s also a handy spot to drop your drink so you’ve got both hands free to carry stuff around.

The other great feature is that the one koozie can handle both a 12 oz and a 16 oz can. If your cooler has both of those can sizes in it, and you want to keep them cold, you’d have to have two different sizes available of koozie. Or, with the BOTE MAGNEChill, you can simply swap out the top (which locks the can in place) and easily handle either can size. Sure, you’re still carrying two things, say, to the campsite. But a spare piece of plastic is a lot lighter than a second steel coozie.

Now, yes – if you’ve got a 16 oz can in there, the top quarter of the can is not in the vacuum sealed insulation. Still, that’s a problem easily remediated by drinking it before it warms up, and then the koozie can do its job with the rest of it. In other words, it shouldn’t be an issue. And if it is for you, well, you’ll be carry two can coolers I guess.

Wrapping things up

If you couldn’t tell from the writeup, I really am a fan of the BOTE MAGNEChill. It’s got some great versatility, and with BOTE being so outdoors-focused, the koozie truly feels like a piece of outdoors gear. For my part, I’m definitely looking forward to putting it to use when we get our camping gear all loaded up this summer. And, of course, when it’s yardwork or grilling time (bonus usage, it sticks on top of my pellet hopper on the grill).

The BOTE MAGNEChill is available in eight colors, and runs $30. If your beverage of choice is in the slim cans, they’ve got you covered with that as well for the same price (but you’re locked into just a 12 oz). Check them out, and order yours, over at boteboard.com
